CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The timing of Michael Jordan’s decision to sell his majority ownership stake in the Charlotte Hornets has left the organization in flux, with several looming key personnel decisions. The Hornets have the No. 2 pick in the NBA draft on Thursday night. They also have some difficult decisions to make in free agency in early July, including whether to re-sign embattled restricted free agent Miles Bridges. With the NBA’s Board of Governors unlikely to approve the team’s sale to an ownership group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall until at least another month or two, the question becomes who will sign off on general manager Mitch Kupchak’s potentially franchise-altering decisions this summer. Will it be Jordan, a lame duck majority owner? Or will the new ownership have a major input? Jordan will remain on as a minority owner after the sale is approved, so he still has a vested interest in the organization.Bobby Marks, a front-office insider for ESPN, said the timing...

Kickin’ It with Kiz: Stan Kroenke has eclipsed Pat Bowlen as greatest sports owner in Denver history

With Stan Kroenke as owner, the Rams, Mammoth, Avalanche and Nuggets have been champs in football, lacrosse, hockey and basketball since the start of 2022. Let’s encourage him to buy the Rockies.Walt, wishful-thinkerKiz: Stan Kroenke is one driven, stubborn dude who refuses to lose. Yes, those traits can cut both ways. When Kroenke refused to deal from a position of weakness, trading Carmelo Anthony actually benefited the Nuggets, especially when you consider guard Jamal Murray became the final piece of that deal. On the other hand, Kroenke’s refusal to back down in a showdown with Comcast has earned him vilification by fans upset because it’s tough to find Nikola Jokic and Nathan MacKinnon on local TV. But this is my truth: With all due respect to the late, great Pat Bowlen, the greatest sports mogul that this dusty old cowtown has ever seen is Kroenke.Assuming Jokic doesn’t lose interest, the Nuggets could go on a San Antonio style run over the coming decade.Peter, Bow...
