AUSTIN (KXAN) – Researchers from the University of Texas Medical Branch found that an extract from a mushroom can reduce infection from COVID-19.Researchers at UTMB infected mice with SARS-CoV-2 and then administered an oral supplement of a mushroom extract – called AHCC. They found that the extract was effective at combating harmful symptoms in mice with both mild and severe COVID-19 infections. The research was published in the journal Pathogens earlier this month.“We found that with an oral supplement of AHCC, [it] can decrease infection and also [reduce] the tissue damage in the lungs,” said Dr. Tian Wang, UTMB professor and lead author of the study. “In the severe model, we also found that [AHCC] can significantly reduce mortality. Our study suggests the oral supplementation with the nutrient can improve immunity,” she said. This study is another example of the mushroom’s –hoof fungus or Fomes fomentarius – medicinal benefits. Wang said she worked on a previous study...Charges: St. Paul man solicited sex from girls online with vape pens and money

A hopeful young person insteadNope. I do not accept the candidacy of Joe Biden or Donald Trump for president in 2024. They’re both old news of an older generation.I am bothered by the optics of Biden who has many had unfortunate gaffes and falls. Wondering if a gaffe would start WWIII, or if he’ll break a hip allowing an untested replacement in his wake. He’s also a polarizing figure and marches to his own drum. I am bothered by the optics of how other countries view the USA as being led by someone who may not fulfill promises made to the USA or to their countries.I am bothered by the optics of Trump who seemingly has his finger on the nuclear button and his brash polarizing politics. He now has been indicted for alleged felonies and is going to a civil trial for an alleged rape, with more rumors of other possible indictments. Like Biden, Trump is also one that clearly marches to his own drum.I can’t conscientously vote for either. They don’t deserve ou...Here’s why Wild winger Marcus Foligno shouldn’t have been ejected from Game 5

Marcus Foligno was already fully dressed in his suit on Tuesday night at American Airlines Center in Dallas while the rest of his teammates were gearing down. After getting ejected for knee-on-knee contact just 2 minutes, 14 seconds into Game 5 of the first-round playoff series, Foligno struggled to find the right words on the heels of the Wild’s 4-0 loss to the Dallas Stars. He made clear that he felt he let his teammates down by forcing them to play without him for nearly 60 minutes of regulation. He also made clear that he didn’t agree with ruling that got him kicked out of the game in the first place.“A major?” Foligno asked rhetorically to reporters in the Wild locker room. “I don’t agree with it.”The play in question featured the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Foligno colliding with the Stars’ 6-foot-3, 225-pound Radek Faksa at full speed. It looked like a car accident, and while Foligno managed to stay on his skates, Faksa flipped before cru...Robots move around local classrooms as part of new computer science standards
